Five Reasons Your Cell Phone is Important After an Accident

Cell Phone Important After Auto Accident.jpg

In the old days, it was always important to keep a camera, note pad and pen in your glove box so you could take notes and document the scene in the event you were in an accident. But now, with available technology, your cell phone has replaced these. It is important when you have been involved in an auto accident for several reasons. Basically, it's a one-stop device for all you need to do immediately following a crash. Whether it's a fender-bender or more serious accident, your smartphone is a smart way to capture the moments, images, and more. Of course, it's a good idea to always be vigilant and to attempt to avoid accidents altogether. That's why defensive driving is safe driving, because it does help avoid collisions.

Why Your Cell Phone is Important when You have been Involved In An Auto Accident

Unfortunately, even the best defensive and alert drivers are involved in auto crashes. It happens all the time and we are all aware of the myriad of reasons behind these collisions.

Distracted driving, fatigue, inattention, unsafe driving, and more are all common causes. If you experience a collision, your phone is an ideal resource. Here's why your cell phone is important when you have been involved in an auto accident:

  • Call 911. It's always a good idea to call 911 when there is an accident, especially if there are injuries. It is important to document the accident and many times the police or fire department responders will write a report and take phots.
  • Take photos of all cars. You should immediately check yourself and others for injuries. In addition, seeking medical attention as soon as possible, even if you don't feel hurt. If you are able, take pictures of all the cars involved, including your own.
  • Take photos of the accident scene. In addition to photographing the cars, take several pictures, even video, of the scene and surrounding area. Your goal is to document as much as you can with photos because these will be very helpful later.
  • Take photos of the other person's driver's license & insurance information. You should refrain from conversation with the other driver, but do ask for his or her driver's license and take a picture of it, as well. It's a good idea to photograph the front and back of the driver's license to ensure its validity. Additionally, while you're taking a picture of his or her driver's license, also take pictures of his or her insurance card, front and back
  • Document everything that happened with voice and written notes. Finally, you should document your own recollection of what just happened. Create a voice note or a written note on your cell phone. But, do not admit fault or say that you are not injured.
  • If you or a loved one have been involved in an accident, it is critical to consult an experienced personal injury attorney immediately. Contact Vititoe Law Group for a free evaluation of your case. There are time limits that apply to filing a claim so it is important you act quickly.
