Truck Driver Deaths Rise Again in 2017

Big rig drivers are in one of the deadliest occupations, as truck driver on-the-job deaths rise to set a new record in 2017. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a 6.6 percent increase in truck driver deaths, with 840 heavy-duty trucking fatalities being recorded, compared to 786 the previous year. Since 2011 the industry has seen the fatality rate increase by a staggering 25 percent. The data provided by the labor bureau concurs with other data from a National Highway Safety Administration Report in October of 2018 that indicated a 9 percent year over year increase in trucker fatalities to the highest level in 29 years. New Hope for Athletes Facing Head Trauma

Jan. 16, 2019 marks the one year anniversary of the death of Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski who took his own life. An autopsy revealed that there were no drugs in his system, but he did have stage one chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) a brain disease, which results in progressive destruction of brain tissue, the apparent result of repeated head trauma. Scaffolding Collapse Bring $50 Million Lawsuit

A Brooklyn woman injured in the construction accident in SoHo is suing the contractors and building owner A former model that was partially trapped beneath collapsed scaffolding in SoHo, NY has filed a $50 million lawsuit against multiple parties. Katherine Lefavre, 33, of Brooklyn, claims she suffered multiple injuries when heavy wind gusts caused scaffolding and other debris to collapse. The Nov. 19 construction accident happened near the intersection of Broadway and Prince Street in SoHo.
