What Is Yaz?
Yaz is a birth control drug, but one that is not recommended for all women in need of birth control. In fact, the U.S. Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising, and Communications sent Bayer Pharmaceuticals a warning letter concerning two television commercials: “Not Gonna Take it” and “Balloons” for YAZ (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) Tablets. The TV ads are misleading because they broaden the drug’s indication, overstate the efficacy, and minimize serious risks associated with the use of the drug.
Yaz Side Effects
Yasmin has been associated with serious side effects including stroke, heart attack and even death. Women having a history involving cardiovascular problems should be especially careful. The VAERS database lists a number of severe reactions including but not limited to severe allergic reactions, rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; fainting, irregular heartbeat, liver problems, unusual or severe vaginal bleeding, unusual tiredness or weakness, vaginal irritation or discharge and vision changes.

Data from this safety study indicate that the greatest risk of VTE is present after initially starting a COC or restarting (following a 4 week or greater pill-free interval) the same or a different COC.
PATIENT COUNSELING INFORMATION
